  • Employment Classification: Seasonal Part Time
  • Pay Rate: $26.69 - $28.32 per hour
  • Hours of Work per Week: part time, up to 20 hours per week
  • Schedule of Work: Weekday Winter Patroller: 1 am to 5 am Monday to Friday, or, Weekend Winter Patroller 1 am to 5 am Saturday and Sunday
  • Anticipated Start Date: November 1, 2026
  • Contract End Date: April 16, 2027

Job Description

Under the direction of the Transportation Superintendent, the seasonal Winter Patroller performs scheduled patrol of the municipal roadways during the winter season (November 2026 to April 2027), evaluating the need for winter control.

NOTE: There are two positions available: One weekday Winter Patroller (Monday to Friday) and one weekend Winter Patroller (Saturday and Sunday).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for conducting a representative winter road patrol of the municipal highways and sidewalks, making note of snow and ice conditions, and contacting the Transportation Superintendent and/or their designate for winter maintenance.
  • Document areas and items that require maintenance – winter control, regular maintenance, or streetlights.
  • Discuss plans, priorities, and work schedules with the Transportation Superintendent and/or their designate through routine communication or, if needed, during the event.
  • Maintains patrol vehicle and equipment in good condition, performs daily inspections and any other needed maintenance, and accurately documents records.
  • Completion of road patrol record sheets and other required forms for inventory/legal purposes.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • All activities are expected to be performed safely, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs.
  • All necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.

Qualifications Experience or Skills

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Minimum Class G license
  • Previous construction, snowplow and equipment operator experience is considered an asset
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills

Physical Effort and Working Conditions

  • Overtime may be required from time to time to address weather conditions or emergency situations.
  • Work may entail activities in all weather conditions.
