Duties And Responsibilities

• Inspect, construct, operate and maintain water mains and services including repair to water main breaks, hydrants and valves.
• Inspect, construct, operate and maintain sewage mains and services such as repairing sewage main breaks, manholes.
• Install, troubleshoot and read water meters, as applicable.
• Respond to service calls relating to water quality, meter installations, sewage backup.
• Carry out maintenance and housekeeping of water systems buildings (such as painting, cleaning, minor repairs) and grounds.
• Complete time sheets and operational reports and invoices, as required.
• Conduct routine water quality sampling, testing and analysis.
• Operate, inspect and maintain all water treatment facilities, wells, booster stations, and water storage facilities using appropriate chemicals, instrumentation systems, laboratory equipment (for chemical and water analysis) and pumpage, motor, pump and piping systems.
• Record daily pumpages, chemical usage, water levels, pump running time.
• Respond to service calls at water treatment plants, wells, booster stations and water storage facilities.
• Comply with all current corporate policies and procedures and applicable Provincial acts and regulations.
• Deliver water treatment chemicals from Bulk Depot to outlying plants.
• Data entry and perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Experience

• High school Grade 12 graduation plus an additional program over two and up to three years or equivalent, as per Ministry requirements.
• Valid Province of Ontario Class DZ driver’s license preferred or valid Province of Ontario Class G and ability to obtain Class DZ driver’s license within one (1) year of date of hire. Must have a clean driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Operator in Training: Must possess 2 of the 3 following MECP Operator in Training certification in water distribution, wastewater collection and water treatment and progress to Class I Operator Certificate within two years of hire and Class II Certificate within four years of hire. Over six months related experience.
• Operator Class I: Must possess 2 of the 3 MECP Class I certifications and over one year related experience as an operator on those systems.
• Operator Class II: Must possess 2 of the 3 MECP Class II certifications and over three years related experience as an operator on those systems.
• Operator Class III: Must possess MECP Class III certification in water treatment and either water distribution or wastewater collection with over four years related experience.

Skills And Abilities

• Must obtain Ontario Meter Installer License.
• Must be able to obtain applicable safety certifications including Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Confined Space, First Aid and CPR, and Traffic Control Training.
• Overtime and ability to be on-call after regular working hours as part of a rotation per CUPE 4700 collective agreement.
• Computer experience required; capable of data entry/inquiry using specific software.
• Understanding of basic operation of all related equipment.
• Computer expertise in Microsoft Office and department specific software for data search, entry and word processed documents.
• Awareness of safe work practices as related to job responsibilities and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Work Hours And Conditions

The successful candidate may be required to respond to emergencies and additional work after normal working hours as deemed necessary. This position may be required to assume scheduled after-hours standby duty.
