Job Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, reporting to the Supervisor, Technical Services.
• Operate and maintain backstage equipment and work as a stagehand in a safe and efficient manner for all events.
• Operate and maintain a sophisticated theatre backstage environment ensuring safety.
• Audio Technician duties: set up and operate DiGiCo SD and other mixing consoles, install microphones, effects, dynamics processing; operate playback devices, amplifiers, speaker systems; troubleshoot and mix sound for theatre, musical theatre, spoken word, amplified music concerts and dance events; set up, troubleshoot, and operate video projection systems; program and operate audio playback systems such as QLab for theatrical use.
• Lighting Technician duties: program and operate Grand MA lighting control systems; create lighting for dance, theatre, musical theatre, and concerts; hang, circuit, colour and focus conventional and moving lights; operate lighting consoles and follow spotlights; install and program DMX control systems; troubleshoot and maintain lighting fixtures.
• Stage Technician duties: set up scenery and staging for events; repair scenic elements; rig flying scenery; operate single purchase fly system; perform scene changes for all event types.
• Maintain theatre equipment and building.
• Provide limited supervision of events in the Oakville Centre Studio Theatre, supervising clients and crew and overseeing all technical aspects.

Qualifications

• Two-year college diploma or university degree in Technical Theatre plus 3 years related road house environment experience, or equivalent combination.
• Passion for performing arts; background in technical theatre; familiarity with a live performance environment.
• Skills in lighting design, programming Grand MA lighting consoles, audio engineering with DiGiCo SD consoles, set construction, carpentry, rigging, stage management, training, and working with community volunteer crews.
• Required certifications: Scissor lift training, Working at Heights certification, first aid / CPR.
• Successful completion of Natural Resources Canada Pyrotechnic Card – Theatrical within 12 months of hire.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Advanced problem solving, job estimation skills, resourcefulness, initiative, and ability to work with little supervision.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills; ability to work as part of a team.
• Must provide a satisfactory criminal record check dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment.
