Description

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a temporary full-time Supervisor, Aquatic Services in the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Services division. This temporary full-time opportunity is for a period up to January 30th.

The Supervisor, Aquatic Services is responsible for leading the aquatic team to plan, develop and deliver high quality aquatic programs/services/events and opportunities that are available, accessible and improves quality of life and safety to all residents and visitors of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
  • Lead a team in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Oversee portfolio operating budget and daily aquatic operations
  • Liaise regularly with facility staff to ensure operational effectiveness, which meets Ontario Public Pool Regulations 565
  • Management/supervision of Occupational Health & Safety within the aquatic facilities including monthly fire inspections and follow-up
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community groups/organizations, vendors, contractors, all levels of government, service providers, private sector, not-for profits
  • Responsible to research, source, and develop new aquatic program initiatives that positively impact the community residents and visitors of Chatham-Kent
  • Act as the key communication link between employees following the appropriate policies and procedures
  • Utilize recreation software systems to manage day to day operational requirements
  • Research from a variety of sources, alternative funding opportunity to enhance aquatic opportunities for Chatham-Kent residents
  • Assist with the development of marketing strategies/tactics as identified for aquatic programs/services/events and opportunities
  • Assist with business plan development and program service delivery
  • Assist with special projects & events as required
  • Perform 'Acting Manager' duties as required

Essential Qualifications

  • College certificate/diploma or university degree (preferably in Recreation Leadership, Leisure and Sport Management, Kinesiology, Fitness and Health Promotion, Business Administration, or related field), with two (2) to four (4) years of related experience
  • Experience in directing aquatic/dryland program delivery, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Knowledge and ability to supervise/adhere to required Health and Safety requirements for pool operations
  • Aquatic supervisory experience, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Experience developing aquatic program/marketing strategies
  • Experience managing operating budget
  • Working knowledge of PerfectMind, Questica/Euna, JD Edwards (or other similar programs)
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and internet (or other similar software programs)

Other Qualifications

  • Experience in leading formal projects, through the application of recognized project management principles, would be an asset

Certifications, Memberships, Licenses

  • Current National Lifeguard - Pool or Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
  • Current Lifesaving Instructor certification
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ certification that meets WSIB regulations
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (PHCD) an asset
  • Examiner Status for Lifesaving Society an asset
  • Trainer Status for one or more of Advanced Courses (i.e. NL, WSI, First Aid, LSI, High Five, Aquatic Trainer, CALA etc.) an asset
  • Swim Ontario Level 1 - Fundamentals Coaching an asset
  • Certified Pool Operator Certification an asset
  • High Five Quest 2 an asset
  • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor certification an asset
  • CALA /Water Art Certification an asset

Work Environment and Hours of Work

  • This position works both indoors and outdoors
  • This position works weekday hours, with occasional evening, weekend and on-call hours

Driver’s Licence/Vehicle Requirements

Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G or higher Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. An acceptable driver’s abstract will:

  • Be an original document and current (within the previous thirty (30) days)
  • Have no more than four (4) demerit points
  • Have no more than two (2) convictions for the same offence
  • Have no criminal code convictions
  • Have no ‘non-medical or administrative’ license suspension in the preceding three (3) years

Because this position may be required to drive their own vehicle, a reliable vehicle is also required.

Background Check Requirements

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to commencement of employment.

Essential Physical and/or Safety Requirements

Bending: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching (multiple applications of bending occur during a shift on the pool deck; frequent stooping, twisting and crouching to speak to a patron or deliver instruction; occasional kneeling, squatting and crawling).
