Specialized Instructor - Sports

Position Details

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive programs for volleyball, football, soccer, tennis, hockey, floor hockey, badminton, archery or basketball to meet the needs of registered adult, youth and/or child participants.
• Act as a knowledgeable resource to participants and their families.
• Ensure instruction is conducted in a safe environment encouraging participation and personal development.
• Arrive at program site in time to properly prepare, set up and start the program according to schedule.
• Follow lesson plans and provide ongoing evaluation of individual progression.
• Follow class format and content as required.
• Ensure on-site safety of participants.
• Deliver exceptional customer service including welcoming, conduct and communication.
• Conduct program administration such as attendance tracking, registration update, incident reports as required.
• Work cooperatively with other instructors and youth volunteers.
• Notify Recreation Coordinator/Fitness of any problems or recommendations regarding participants, courts or facilities that may affect the program.
• Attend staff meetings as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current Intermediate First Aid with CPR C certification (formerly Standard First Aid with CPR C) from WSIB-approved provider, issued within last three years and valid throughout employment term.
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification required.
• Proven experience with children, youth and adults.
• Coaching certification and/or representative playing experience considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability in volleyball, soccer, tennis, hockey, floor hockey, badminton, archery, basketball or pickleball.
• Ability to work with limited supervision.
• Access to reliable transportation.
• Requires satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector screening check dated within last 30 days as condition of employment (candidates under age 18 only require criminal record check).
