Basic Function
The Snow Plow Driver is a seasonal position to augment the number of full-time County Operators and adequately staff the Winter Control Operation. The driver must have the skills to be integrated fully into the winter control shift roster. This position requires rotating shifts 24/7, including an on-call rotation.
Principal Responsibilities
- Operate a snow plow and front end loader on rotating winter shifts
- Report equipment breakdowns and poor performance to the Roads Supervisor
- Patrol roads, record road conditions, and report to Roads Supervisor
- Ensure work is done with good workmanship to achieve desired outcomes
- Perform labourer and operator tasks related to road maintenance activities
- Investigate and report public concerns regarding road maintenance (sanding, salting, grading, patching)
- Provide prompt, courteous service to the public for road maintenance problems
- Replace or repair road signs as required
- Perform other assigned duties
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Minimum two years of experience or equivalent in road maintenance or construction, preferably municipal setting
- Working knowledge of operating various light trucks, six tonne snowplows, agricultural and construction equipment
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System regulations
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Valid driver’s licence Class D with Z endorsement and satisfactory driver’s abstract
- Participation in Roads On-call Rotation required; must report within 30 minutes of callout
