The Township of Brock, having a population of 12,567, is primarily a rural municipality situated on the shores of Lake Simcoe and is home to three urban centres, Beaverton, Cannington, and Sunderland.

The Township is seeking motivated individuals to fill casual winter labourer positions at the Foster Hewitt Memorial Community Centre, Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre, and Sunderland Memorial Arena.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of arena and recreation facilities, equipment, and related amenities.
  • Perform ice maintenance duties, including operation of the ice resurfacer and related equipment, where qualified.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facility equipment, refrigeration plant systems, and maintain required operational logs.
  • Assist with general facility maintenance, minor repairs, cleaning, and custodial duties.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of arenas, dressing rooms, public areas, and surrounding grounds.
  • Set up and tear down equipment for recreational programs, special events, tournaments, and facility rentals.
  • Operate vehicles, machinery, and equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment and report deficiencies as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to public inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Perform manual labour, including lifting, carrying, shoveling, cleaning, and other physical tasks.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Process payments for public programs and facility rentals, including cash handling, making change, and operating debit payment terminals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Previous arena, facility maintenance, parks, or recreation operations experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence in good standing.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of arena operations, ice maintenance equipment, and refrigeration systems is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and shifts as required.
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Municipality.

Assets

  • Experience operating an ice resurfacer (Zamboni).
  • ORFA Basic Arena Refrigeration Certificate (BAR).
  • WHMIS certification and knowledge of municipal health and safety practices.
