About the Role

As a Registered Nurse, you will be part of a collaborative care team that will provide professional nursing care to residents. As a leader, you will support, supervise and provide guidance to the Personal Support Workers and Registered Practical Nurses within the Home as they provide care to the residents.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care in accordance with administration policies, physician orders, established standards and recognized nursing principles.
• Supervises and directs the nursing staff including: daily routines, scheduling for call-ins, performance appraisal input and participates in resident care related meetings as required.
• Assesses the resident’s condition; observes, recognizes, interprets, reports and records symptoms and signs; institutes remedial health measures.
• Maintains accurate records of nursing observations and care on resident’s charts.
• Performs duties and receives direction and technical assistance from the Home physician.
• Administers and records medications and treatments as prescribed and approved by the Home physician.
• Assists in training and supervision of nursing service personnel.
• Maintains effective working relationships with all staff, physicians, other professionals, residents, families, and the public.
• Stays aware of current trends and developments in nursing practice; recommends changes to the Manager of Resident Care as necessary.
• Responsible for safekeeping of drug and narcotics keys.
• With the team develops and maintains up-to-date Resident Care Plans.
• Provides and directs personal care and attention to residents, including assistance with toileting, bathing, dressing, eating, walking, sitting, and mobility.
• Identifies resident needs to maintain a suitable physical and psychosocial environment.
• Assumes responsibility for the building when Management is off-site.
• Assists with in-service education and nursing research as appropriate.
• Complies with fire and safety regulations to ensure security and protection of residents.
• Directs staff in emergencies.
• Ensures incident/accident reports are completed.
• Ensures all staff comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and County policies.
• Advises workers of any potential dangers and takes precautions for worker protection.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or equivalent education and experience allowing full scope nursing practice.
• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR Level HCP or BLS Certification.
• Related work experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing; course in geriatric nursing is an asset.
• Demonstrated skills in planning, coordinating and supervising others.

Conditions of Employment
