Job Summary

Applications are now being accepted for six (6) temporary seasonal Public Works Operator 2 / Operator 1 positions assigned to day and afternoon winter maintenance shifts, for the period extending from November through April. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the successful candidates will carry out duties in accordance with established standard operating procedures, departmental and corporate policies, sound construction and maintenance practices, and relevant codes and regulations.

A commitment to quality customer service, workplace safety, and continuous improvement is essential to success in this role.

Major Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a wide range of municipal equipment including, but not limited to, tractors with sidewalk plows, skid steers, loaders, and dump trucks, while completing street maintenance tasks
  • Carry out snow and ice control operations on sidewalks, municipal parking lots, and multi-use pathways in accordance with established municipal winter maintenance standards
  • Perform a variety of road and infrastructure maintenance activities such as brushing, pothole repair, bridge and sign maintenance, garbage and debris removal, and roadside tree trimming and cutting
  • Respond to and investigate public concerns or complaints as directed by the Supervisor
  • Work extended hours as needed, including availability for emergency call-outs before and after regular working hours
  • Complete other duties and assume additional responsibilities as assigned or as apparent in the course of work

Requirements

  • Preference will be given to applicants who hold a valid Class DZ Driver’s Licence in good standing and have experience operating heavy equipment, including plowing and snow removal on municipal roads, sidewalks, parking lots, and pathways.

Working Hours

Day Shift 7am-3pm and Afternoon Shift 3pm – 11pm Monday - Friday

Willing to work extended hours and be able to respond before and after-hours emergency call-outs in a timely manner.
