Employment Opportunity

The Corporation of the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand is currently looking to fill the vacancy for a Public Works Operator – Seasonal, On-Call.

Located within the rolling hills of Northumberland County and bordered by Lake Ontario in the South and Rice Lake in the North, the Township provides an excellent working environment.

Reporting

Reporting directly to the Public Works Lead Hand and the Public Works Manager, this role is responsible for the daily operations of roads maintenance while using heavy trucks, dumps/plows and/or loaders. This position requires the candidate to be flexible and available for support to the department during winter months.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Carry out tasks and duties as part of the winter municipal roads programs including snow-plowing, sanding, and other public road maintenance requirements.
• Comply with the standards set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1990 and the municipality’s health and safety policies pertaining to Public Works employees.
• Report equipment and condition deficiencies and hazards to the Public Works Lead Hand.
• Perform duties efficiently and effectively while communicating courteously and respectfully with the general public and township staff.
• Other duties as prescribed by the Public Works Lead Hand.

Qualifications And Skills

• Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in construction, road maintenance, utility setting, farm equipment, dump truck or equivalent heavy equipment operation.
• DZ license with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Evening and weekend work will be required.
• Experience operating a tandem plow truck with wing and sander is considered an asset.
• Employee must provide own CSA approved safety footwear.
• Obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to employment commencement.

Hours Of Work

This is a casual call in position starting the week of October 5, 2026 and running to the week of April 24, 2027.

Compensation

The pay rate for this position is $31.45 per hour (January 1, 2026 Wage rate CUPE 5574).
