Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertakes inside and outside maintenance operations, mechanical and technical repairs to equipment and facilities, per the Parks and Recreation Maintenance Management Policy & Procedures.
  • Assists in the care, maintenance and operation of parks, properties and recreation services, special events and programs.
  • Strictly observes occupational health and safety practices and adheres to all other applicable acts and regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Completes daily inspection reports and records as required; and undertakes minor repairs as required.
  • Maintains discipline amongst users of the facilities.
  • Performs such other related duties within the general parameters of this job description, as may reasonably be requested by the Lead hand - Parks & Recreation or Manager, Parks and Recreation which may be amended from time to time.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • ORFA Certified Ice Technician and Certified Grounds Technician or actively willing to obtain.
  • Three to five years’ experience is preferred.
  • Valid “G” drivers license.
  • CPR/First Aid.
  • Mechanical and construction skills to operate and maintain equipment such as trucks, ice resurfacer, facilities, edgers, grounds maintenance equipment is preferred.
  • Understanding of horticultural, arboricultural, turf maintenance and property maintenance practices.
  • Initiative and public profile requires good communication and public relations skills.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical & plumbing.

Compensation

This is a full-time permanent Union position, 40-hour work week with a compensation range of $30.36 - $33.35 per hour. The candidate will also be eligible for the OMERS Pension Plan and competitive benefits package.

Hours of Work

40 hours per week - Winter Schedule: Four (4) Ten-hour shifts, Monday to Sunday – scheduled rotation of days and evening work. Summer Schedule: Four (4) ten-hour shifts either Monday - Thursday; Tuesday - Friday; or Thursday – Sunday. Working hours as outlined in the CA.
