The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for dedicated individuals interested in contributing to their community by becoming Paid On Call Firefighters.

Firefighters provide fire suppression, rescue, and other related emergency services, and participate in programs designed for fire prevention, public education on fire and life safety behaviours, saving lives, protecting property, and environment. Firefighters perform various duties under emergency conditions involving hazards, participate in fire prevention, public education, training, and other departmental programs. Duties also include maintenance of firefighting vehicles, equipment, and fire service facilities, and completing administrative tasks such as logs, forms, witness statements, and reports.

Successful candidates must be available to attend scheduled recruit training, monthly training sessions, emergency responses, and departmental events.

Eligibility Requirements

• Experienced/Certified Track: NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II and NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations certifications (IFSAC or ProBoard); minimum two (2) years of verified active firefighting experience with a municipal, composite, volunteer, paid-on-call, or industrial fire service; successful completion of FPAT through Ready4Rescue or current OFAI Stage 3.
• Certified Track: NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II and NFPA 1072 certifications; successful completion of FPAT or current OFAI Stage 3.
• Recruit Track: Successful completion of FPAT through Ready4Rescue or current OFAI Stage 3.
• All Tracks: Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), at least 18 years of age, valid G class driver's licence with ability to provide clean abstract, ability to obtain DZ licence within 1 year post-probation, clean Vulnerable Sector Check, live in the municipality, and availability to meet training and response targets.

Preferred Qualifications

• DZ driver’s licence (to be completed within 1 year post-probation)
• Previous firefighting experience
• Standard First Aid with CPR-C and Defibrillation
• Construction or building experience
• Experience operating heavy equipment or driving commercial vehicles
• Ability to respond during business hours (daytime availability is an asset)

Ready4Rescue Testing Information

The FPAT testing is completed through Ready4Rescue and associated fees are the responsibility of the candidate. Completion of Ready4Rescue testing components is required to progress to interview. Candidates with valid current OFAI Stage 3 are exempt from FPAT.

• FPAT testing fee $200 payable at Town Hall
• Review assessment and testing requirements before attending
