Maple View Lodge invites applications for the position of Maintenance Technician (Casual, 2 Positions).
Description
Reporting to the Support Services Supervisor and indirectly to the Administrator, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for all building services including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment for Maple View Lodge. The role includes adherence to the organization's mission, vision, values, regulations, legislation, and County policies.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Completion of a post-secondary certificate (up to one year) in building maintenance mechanics, instrumentation, or related field acceptable by the employer
- Minimum two years’ maintenance experience desired
- Completion and maintenance of a current Small Drinking Water System Operator Certificate (must be completed within 6 months of hire)
- Knowledge of building automation, maintenance systems, applicable legislation including Building Code, Fire Code, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Regulation 170/03
- Ability to read and understand technical documents, architectural, mechanical, electrical drawings, and operational manuals
- Strong communication skills, professional work ethic, time management, and prioritization
- Ability to adapt to change and demonstrate continuous process improvement mindset
- Team player with effective interpersonal skills
- Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software (work order and building automation software)
- Valid Class “G” driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen
- Ability to meet physical demands of the position
Position Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor building systems including electrical systems with standby generator, plumbing from well pump to septic tank and tile beds, HVAC, nurse call, fire alarm, fire extinguishing systems, locks, windows, and doors
- Perform regular testing, sampling, documentation, and maintenance in accordance with Regulation 170/03 of the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002
- Troubleshoot building systems and communicate issues to contractors, management, and staff
- Conduct fire drills and provide fire training under the direction of the Support Services Supervisor
- Repair minor structures and perform major painting projects, minor drywall, and interior finishes
- Maintain grounds and monitor equipment required for grounds maintenance
- Liaise with maintenance contractors, monitor and inspect contracted work
- Maintain inventory of maintenance and housekeeping supplies
- Move and set up furniture for resident rooms and events
- Complete all assigned preventative maintenance tasks and equipment inspections
Work Environment
The Maintenance Technician performs duties within legislative and regulatory standards and operational policies of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Provincial standards, and legislation for long-term care, including residents’ rights.
