Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Public Services/Deputy CEO, the Library Technician I will be responsible for public circulation duties and assisting with programs. This position currently includes shifts each Monday and two Saturdays a month with potential for additional call-in hours. Evening and Saturday availability is required. The incumbent must be available to work at all Springwater Township Public Library branches.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine circulation duties such as checking materials in and out, taking requests, collecting fines and fees, registering and updating members.
• Provide basic reference service, assist with general reference questions, demonstrate use of the library catalogue and guide material selection.
• Assist with library programs, communications, and marketing.
• Shelve materials and assist patrons with technology questions on library or personal devices.
• Maintain courteous and efficient public relations at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

• Community College Diploma in a related discipline preferred; Library Technician Diploma is an asset.
• Previous library experience preferred.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Working knowledge of internet, computer hardware, software, and tablets/devices required.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently.
• Effective communication skills and excellent customer service.
• Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including Saturdays and some evenings.
• Ability to work at any branch (Elmvale, Midhurst, Minesing); travel between branches may be required.
• Successful candidates must submit a Criminal Records Search - Vulnerable Sector Screening acceptable to Springwater Public Library.
