Position Purpose

Responsible for providing general maintenance to all Town roads and Town owned road-side properties and assisting the Roads Supervisor with the coordination and monitoring of divisional staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent academic level
  • Supplemental training in order to operate heavy equipment.
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience in road maintenance/building, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Previous experience working in a computerized environment (Computer maintenance management system, GPS);
  • Previous lead hand and/or acting foreman experience with demonstrated ability to prepare work schedules and exercise sound judgement
  • Previous experience operating various heavy equipment (i.e. grader, tractor, loader, bulldozer, backhoe, etc.).
  • Valid class “DZ” Ontario Driver’s Licence;
  • CVOR Abstract in good standing required to operate Corporation vehicles;

Position Summary

Responsible for providing general maintenance to all Town roads and Town owned road-side properties and assisting the Road’s Supervisor with the coordination and monitoring of divisional staff

Responsibilities

  • Work Planning, Scheduling and Monitoring: Oversees and/or directs the activities of divisional and seasonal staff including orientation, occupational health and safety, training on the effective/safe operation of equipment and maintenance standards/expectations;
  • Prepares work schedules on a daily, weekly and/or annual basis, and assists with time sheets; PSRs and Hours of Service for all Staff;
  • Identifies works, submits work orders, prioritizes work using criticality and manages backlog
  • Prepares estimates for work, prepares job plans, and records actuals for work execution
  • Ensures divisional staff observe all safety and other pertinent regulations/procedures and policies
  • Health & Safety, Policies and Procedures: Ensures compliance of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation
  • Enforces the Town’s Health and Safety Program, procedures and best practices.
  • Implements, conducts, and ensures due diligence  of all health and safety matters including but not limited to training, risk assessments, workplace inspections, investigations, procedures and correcting hazards.
  • Administrative & Reporting: Assists with Monthly Statements, Summary and Submission of Visa Purchase Card.
  • Prepares reports and performs data entry for various inventories electronically
  • May assist with the hiring of seasonal employees, providing recommendations to the Supervisor on discipline and termination decisions of seasonal staff.
  • May conduct performance evaluation reviews on seasonal employees ensuring Occupational Health and Safety performance is evaluated;
  • Identifies areas of concern/problems and resolves situation and/or refers to the Supervisor for resolve;
  • Road Operations and Maintenance: Ensures a high level of maintenance of all Town roads and Town road-side properties including sanding, snow ploughing, grading, patching, ditching, grass cutting, tree/hedge trimming, maintaining culverts, signs, and guide rails, and acting as eyes and ears for the Town in potential emergency situations, providing accurate documentation to protect the Town from liability.
  • Patrols roads during winter months and arranges sufficient staff and equipment for safe roadways.
