About the Position
The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the position of Casual Landfill Attendant. This position assists with effective operations of the Landfill during normal operating days and to provide a variety of maintenance, grounds keeping and routine inspection services for the safety and convenience of the public. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, flexible, with outstanding customer service capabilities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist public with the sorting and disposal of refuse and recyclable material at the landfill sites.
- Assists with the routine maintenance and cleaning of the Landfill site.
- Collect appropriate revenue for tipping fees, provides receipts and prepare for deposits at the Brockton Municipal office.
- Ensure the Clear Bag program is adhered to.
- Maintain proper and correct records as required.
- Promote Recycling at the Landfill sites.
- Performs work in a safe manner, in accordance with the municipality's corporate policies and procedures and Health and Safety practices.
- Responds to public concerns, complaints, questions, suggestions and inquiries.
Qualifications Knowledge Skills Required
- Must be available to work Saturdays.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Willing to work alone at Greenock Landfill and maintain the landfill as required.
- Previous experience in weighscale operations and cash management is considered an asset.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions throughout entire shift.
- Superior Customer Service skills. Ability to deal effectively and courteously in all aspects of the position, including diplomacy, tact, discretion and good judgement.
- Knowledge of legislation and best practices as it relates to the operation of a waste management facility operations is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations and knowledge of W.H.M.I.S.
- Possess a valid First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate.
- Possess a valid Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing with the ability to use own vehicle to transport around the job site.
Landfill Hours Hours Could Be Subject To Change
- April 1st to October 31st: Tuesdays and Wednesdays - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Saturdays - 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- November 1st to March 31st: Wednesdays - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Saturdays - 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
