About The Role

We are searching for team-oriented and motivated individuals to join our Public Works team within the Operations Department. As the Labourer/Truck Driver (Operator 3), reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, you will perform numerous general labour functions related to the maintenance, repairs and construction of sanitary sewers, storm sewers, roads, ditches, culverts, buildings, sidewalks, streets, roads, or highways.

Job Responsibiities

  • Operate winter maintenance equipment safely and competently: trackless side-walk plows, pick-up truck/blade, snowplow.
  • Plows, sands/salts and performs snow removal operations on Town sidewalks, lots and premises.
  • Repair, construct and perform maintenance on sanitary sewers, storm sewers.
  • Complete water main replacements, including lateral and chambers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on the Town’s infrastructure including cleaning and dislodging blockages from sewer system and catch basins.
  • Repair and replace traffic signs, road signs and guardrails.
  • Perform maintenance of buildings, including painting, carpentry and cleaning.
  • Perform culvert repair and installation.
  • Wash vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete trench shoring and support system construction.
  • Perform weed cutting, grass cutting, tree trimming and brush removal, ditch cleaning, and manual snow removal.
  • Complete Wingman function as required (aerial truck and vac truck).
  • Assist with sidewalk replacement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Training

  • Minimum grade 12 education or GED
  • Valid G Class Driver's License
  • Valid DZ class Driver's License or the ability to obtain

Experience and Knowledge

  • A minimum of one year of related work experience.
  • Experience with operating a snowplow, heavy equipment, and large trucks is preferred.
  • The ability to read and interpret plans and drawings is considered an asset.
  • Physical ability to perform duties associated with job responsibilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to deal tactfully and politely with the public.
  • Ability to work shift work and alternative hours during winter control and emergencies.
  • Must have accurate and legible writing ability.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team.
  • Knowledge of road and sidewalk repair and maintenance is an asset.
  • First Aid Certification is considered an asset.
