Overview
This recruitment is for a currently vacant position (1 position) for a full-time IT Technician with the Town of Essex. This position is responsible for providing technical IT support by answering questions and providing technical assistance to staff and council. This role is responsible for troubleshooting a variety of technical issues relating to hardware, software, printers, email, and telephone system.
Responsibilities
- Assist with setting up user workstations, computers and necessary peripheral devices
- Assist with onboarding orientation and offboarding hardware retrieval
- Troubleshoot and escalate technical issues regarding computer configurations, software, peripheral devices such as scanners, projectors, photocopiers and telephone systems, etc
- Support basic network troubleshooting (VPN, Wi-Fi, wired connections) and provide remote user support and escalate complex issues as required
- Assist with the development and maintenance of a system standard for hardware deployments
- Assist in the upgrade, installation and roll out of software and hardware
- Assist in researching, developing, documenting, testing and implementation of new technologies
- Assists with developing and conducting software and computer user training on a variety of technologies
- Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate, ensuring sensitive data is wiped of information and inventory is updated appropriately
- Assist with the documentation of the Municipality’s computer hardware, software and peripheral inventory
- Under the direction of the Manager, IT, manages and prioritizes incoming requests for IT support through internal work order system; provide timely communication and escalation of issues as required
- Assist with the administration, maintenance and training of the corporate phone system
- Assist in management and updates to all photocopiers and printers
- Assist with management and user administration of the controlled access system
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum completion of a two (2) year post-secondary diploma in computer studies or a related program
- Certification in specific areas such as Cisco CCNA certification or Microsoft MCSA, MCSE or A+ certification is an asset
- Demonstrable proficiency with various applications including Windows and Microsoft Office, and remote access technologies
- Experience with the following technologies is considered an asset: Active Networks, Microsoft Dynamics, Laserfiche, VolP phone system, Verkada and Active Directory
- Working knowledge of backup software and systems, including backup, restore and disaster recovery of Windows based systems
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, presentation and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Exceptionally self-motivated and directed
- Excellent time management and multi-tasking abilities
- Ability to enforce corporate policies and procedures internally in a tactful and diplomatic manner
- Must hold a valid Ontario driver’s license
Work Experience
Minimum two (2) years of previous experience related to providing technology support
Work Conditions
- Manual dexterity required to operate computer
- Interacts with employees and management
- Required to work under strict deadlines
- Sitting, standing, walking
- Some overtime may be required, including providing support at after hours meetings, in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement
- Some travel around the municipality is required
