Job Responsibilities

• Providing instructional woodworking classes at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre to children, youth and/or adults in a studio wood shop environment.
• Preparing, leading, and delivering woodworking classes tailored to participant needs.
• Assisting with research and development of woodworking programming for beginner and practicing artists ensuring activities are safe, creative, and inclusive.
• Providing a positive learning and recreational experience for all participants.
• Supporting Town department objectives and mandate.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program specializing in Furniture Design, Fine Woodworking or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary craft, fine woodworking, and/or design.
• Familiarity with a broad range of artistic techniques, practices and materials including furniture design, fine woodworking, carving, cabinetry.
• Experience developing lesson and activity plans.
• Previous teaching experience in an educational setting.
• Strong organizational, planning, time management and leadership skills.
• Flexibility to adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently.
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) required for instructing children’s programs ages 4-12 years.
• Basic First Aid with CPR-C & AED certification.
• Satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector screening check dated within last 30 days required (candidates under 18 only require criminal record check).
• Must provide a portfolio demonstrating expertise during interview process.

Work Location

Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) is a multi-purpose recreation, arts and culture facility located in Oakville, Ontario. The position operates on-site at QEPCCC.

Additional Information

This posting is open to current Town of Oakville employees and external applicants and is for current and future opportunities to be filled as needed until December 31, 2026. Contract hours vary from 1 to 8 hours weekly by course appointment.
