Position Summary

Timmins Transit’s mission is “To excel in the provision of a safe, reliable, efficient and customer service focused public transportation system”. As a Transit Mechanic, you play a key role in providing this service. Under the supervision of the Transit Mechanical Supervisor, you will work with a team of proud trade persons to maintain municipally owned transit buses and vehicles.

Duties

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on the conventional and para-transit fleet
  • Ability to perform semi-annual safety inspections
  • Ability to perform electrical and multiplexing diagnosis and repairs
  • Ability to perform engine, transmission diagnosis and repairs
  • Ability to perform steering and suspension system diagnosis and repairs
  • Ability to perform pneumatic system diagnosis and repairs
  • Maintain shop tools and equipment for safe use
  • Work in a clean and safe manner following corporate and departmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
  • Required to participate and support the City of Timmins Continuous Improvement Program in order to help foster a culture of operational excellence
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Applicants must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence
  • Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician certificate required
  • Ontario 310S Automotive Service Technician certificate preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience
  • Must have knowledge of hydraulics and diagnostic ability
  • Should have mechanical knowledge of buses and/or coaches
  • Ability to rebuild components such as engines, transmissions and overhauling of equipment
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system and electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Knowledge of repairs of HVAC systems an asset
