Position Details

  • Position/Status: Dietary Aide – Casual
  • Starting Hourly Rate: $26.64 per hour + 4% vacation and 12.5% in lieu of all benefits and paid holidays
  • Benefits: All benefits, paid and statutory holidays and vacation entitlements will be provided in accordance with the CUPE 2290 Collective Agreement.
  • Hours Include: No Guaranteed Hours
  • Department: Social Services

Position Summary

The Dietary Aide is responsible for the safe and effective preparation, delivery and service of meals and nourishments to the residents of Fairmount Home. The Dietary Aide ensures appropriate cleaning and sanitization of all equipment and food service areas. The Dietary Aide will carry out the duties in alignment to the organization's mission, vision and values, and work to further its priorities.

Education and Experience

  • Grade 12 diploma; Safe Food Handler Certificate, required
  • Successful completion or are enrolled in Food Service Worker Program at a college of applied arts and technology or a career college, required
  • Plus one of the following:
    • Completion of an apprenticeship program in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; or
    • Registered into a training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; or
    • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality food service to perform the duties required of the position

  • Demonstrated basic computer proficiency including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products (Outlook) and the ability to use other software applications applicable to the position (e.g. work order software and patient care software)

  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to health and safety policies, procedures and applicable legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the position

Working Conditions

  • Standing or walking for extended periods during a shift
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Bending, lifting, reaching required
  • Possible exposure to heat/cold temperatures

  • Required to work day, evening and/or night shifts
