About the Role

We are seeking (3) enthusiastic and qualified individuals to join our team as Fitness Instructors/Trainers, reporting to the Wellness and Program Supervisor.

In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation and delivery of group fitness classes and/or fitness training services at the Pryde Aquatic & Wellness Centre (Pryde AWC). Based on your qualifications and interests, you may lead group fitness classes and/or provide personal or group training sessions to support clients in achieving their wellness goals.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver group fitness classes and/or personal, group, and team training sessions at the Pryde AWC, tailored to various age groups and demographics.
  • Develop and implement fitness class and training plans that align with program descriptions and offer modifications to accommodate a range of participant needs.
  • Maintain communication with training clients via phone or email and respond to general inquiries regarding fitness and training programs.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and friendly environment for all patrons during classes and training sessions.
  • Utilize recreation software to manage class lists, training bookings, schedules, and patron information.
  • Maintain records including daily logs, participation numbers, and compile statistics and reports related to program areas.
  • Stay current with best practices, trends, and innovations in group fitness instruction, personal training, and conditioning.
  • Support recreation programming by guiding patrons through the facility, performing equipment checks, and completing light housekeeping tasks such as class setup and equipment cleanup.
  • Attend job-specific professional development opportunities (e.g., conferences, workshops) and participate in corporate training initiatives.
  • Promote and adhere to corporate health and safety policies, ensuring patrons are aware of safety guidelines and providing modifications during instruction or training.
  • Administer minor first aid when required and complete accident/injury report forms.

Education and Training

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Post-secondary diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion, Recreation and Leisure Studies, or a related field is preferred.
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification is required.
  • CanFitPro Personal Training Certification or equivalent, and/or certification in fitness instruction, such as Spin/Cycle, Zumba/Cardio Dance, Yoga/Stretching, HITT/Bootcamp, is required.
  • HIGH FIVE® Certification (Principles of Healthy Childhood Development) is preferred.
  • Specialization in sport-specific team training or aquatic fitness training for swimmers is considered an asset.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum one (1) years’ experience of relevant work experience.
  • One (1) years' experience in recreation/fitness program delivery in a municipal setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in a multi-use facility is preferred.
  • A satisfactory Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
