Major Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Manager Divisional Operational Services and Senior Engineer, the Engineering Technologist Technician 1 will be a member of the team responsible for operations and maintenance, rehabilitation, construction, asset management and infrastructure planning related to the Toronto Water trunk sewer system, municipal construction, and infrastructure in the stream valley erosion control program.
• Provide mechanical/electrical technical support to the team, interacting with Toronto Water sections, City divisions, external agencies, developers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Administer, prepare and co-ordinate requirements and review designs, reports, specifications, permits, and documentation related to Toronto Water projects, operations and maintenance activities and Divisional Operations Services unit work using various software applications.
• Prepare tenders and administer contracts for installation, construction, repair, and rehabilitation of municipal infrastructure focusing on mechanical and electrical infrastructure to ensure compliance with City standards, specifications, and procedures.
• Conduct investigations and studies for proposals, programs, applications, and projects with emphasis on mechanical and electrical work.
• Conduct field inspections, assessments and evaluate condition of facilities and assets including root cause analysis and automation process control, involving underground infrastructure, confined spaces, and challenging field conditions.
• Assist Engineers, Electrical Instrumentation Control Specialists and Technicians, Millwrights and Area Supervisors with technical/project work, operations and maintenance (preventive, predictive, corrective), and job site problems related to mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process control systems, and instrumentation systems for municipal infrastructure.
• Support planning through designing, modifying, tendering, evaluation, assembly, integration, construction, and inspection of municipal infrastructure with a focus on mechanical and electrical components.
• Assist with preparation of budgets and tracking project expenditures.
• Lead projects and provide work direction to staff on projects.
• Prepare drafts of documents, contracts, specifications, and agreements for Engineers, Electrical Instrumentation Control Specialists or Area Supervisors.
• Conduct research and report on new technical developments and practices in mechanical, electrical or process control fields.
• Program, operate, and maintain mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless and computerized equipment and systems performing calculations, diagnostics, repairs, studies etc.
• Develop, maintain, and monitor programs and systems.
• Perform design work and prepare/check data and products using Computer Assisted Design and Drawing (CADD) input information.
• Check consultant/contractor/internal staff work for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to City standards, regulations, statutes, specifications etc.
• Perform or monitor tests and submit results for analysis.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including Toronto Water staff, other Divisions, utility companies, regulating authorities, developers, the public, contractors, and consultants.
• Represent the City at meetings with internal stakeholders, external agencies, public meetings, and discussion groups as required or directed.
• Prepare and update instructions, procedures, templates, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials and conduct demonstrations.
• Perform condition assessments of Divisional Operation Services infrastructure as required.
• Use City’s work management and asset management systems.
• Perform or review research, conduct studies or calculations and analyze technical data.
• Prepare and respond to inquiries from the public, consultants, contractors, and other staff. Act as project representative for information and guidance.
• Prepare, read, and interpret technical drawings including engineer drawings, plan/profile, details, mechanical, electrical and control diagrams, field data and notes.
• Search, evaluate, and analyze existing records, notes, plans.
• Procure goods and/or services as needed.
• Perform general Engineering work as assigned.

Key Qualifications

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

• Graduate in an Engineering Technologist Program in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering from a recognized College or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in writing, reviewing, and interpreting technical reports, drawings, and plans.
