Maple View Lodge invites applications for the position of Dietary Aide (Multiple Positions).
The provincial government has approved an expansion of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville owned Maple View Lodge, a long-term care home, located in Athens, Ontario. The expansion will add 132 class “A” beds to the existing 60-bed facility.
Athens is located 20 minutes North of Brockville, Ontario, known for its tourist destinations and situated on Highway 401.
Position Summary
The Dietary Aide is responsible for providing a variety of duties related to the service of foods and routine cleaning of food services areas, in accordance with the policies of the Home and applicable legislation. As a member of Long-Term Care Services, the Dietary Aide will demonstrate commitment to Resident Safety by providing quality care aligned with the organization’s mission and vision. Reports directly to Support Services Supervisor or delegate.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of The Food Service Worker training program at an Ontario college or a registered private career college in Ontario.
- OR one of the following diplomas/certificates/degrees: Post-secondary diploma or degree in food and nutrition management, Chef Training Diploma or Certificate, Culinary Management Diploma or Certificate, Food Service Worker Program Diploma or Certificate, Certificate of qualification as a Cook, Institutional Cook, or Assistant Cook, Food Handler Training Program Certificate with proof of enrollment or registered training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook, or Assistant Cook.
- Preference given to candidates with minimum one (1) year food service experience, preferably in Long-Term Care.
- Previous experience as a food server in a dining room setting is an asset.
- Understanding of special needs of seniors and Ministry of Health Compliance Standards in a long-term care setting.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks such as reaching, bending, climbing step ladder, pushing, and lifting using good body mechanics.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Patience and tact when interacting with residents, guests, and staff.
- Ability to set priorities and organize work according to department needs.
- Flexibility with work schedule and willingness to accept shifts on short notice.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Portion and serve correct meals to residents and guests.
- Set and clear tables; keep work areas, dining room, and other areas clean and sanitized.
- Assist in dishwashing and prepare and set up daily nourishments.
- Contribute positively to the Dietary Services Team.
- Assist cook with meal preparation and relieve the cook during absences.
- Accept orders from suppliers; store supplies and rotate stock as needed.
- Maintain documentation within the department as required.
- Adhere to all health and safety standards, policies, and legislation, including WHMIS, Infection Control, Fire, and Health and Safety manuals.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection and Privacy Act (FIPPA).
- Perform other related duties as requested and required.
