Position Details

  • Department: Social Development & Policy

Reporting to the Manager of Social Development & Policy, the Corporate Initiatives Coordinator (CIC) is responsible for the execution and delivery of projects and initiatives as directed by the Mayor, City Council, Chief Administrative Officer and Executive Leadership Team. The CIC is also accountable for the delivery of corporate strategies and multi-year initiatives such as the Brantford 2050 City Vision, Community Safety and Well-being Planning, Brantford Priority Plan, Value-for-Money Audits, Primary Care Access Program, Town and Gown Advisory Committee, Brantford Immigration Partnership, Inclusive Community Plan, City Grants Program, Truth and Reconciliation, External Agency Funding, Youth Strategy, and Age-Friendly Community Planning. These initiatives often include a wide range of stakeholders including community organizations, private sector entities, City departments, consultants and academics.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Governance and Accountability
    • Oversight and accountability for cross-departmental and/or community-based strategies as directed by City Council, CAO or Executive Leadership Team.
    • Prepare recommendations to City Council and the Executive Leadership Team.
    • Act as a Liaison between community organizations and municipal administration.
    • Act as staff Liaison for Task Forces and Advisory Committees.
    • Proper handling of confidential information including but not limited to in-camera reports, embargoed information, grants and funding decisions and staffing matters for partner organizations, land sales and negotiations, review of consultant reports that discuss staffing and funding levels, etc.
  • Project Management and Strategic Planning
    • Support the development and implementation of Strategic Plans and corporate initiatives.
    • Develop collaborative projects with other divisions, departments, and community partners that address identified issues (ex. through project monitoring, grant writing, working group leadership, etc.).
    • Project design, execution and management of initiatives in support of corporate and strategic goals.
    • Develop and implement evaluation processes, including performance indicators, providing recommendations for project and program growth and sustainability.
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to support decision making.
    • Identify emergency community trends, opportunities, and risks and provide recommendations as needed.
  • Administration and Financial Oversight
    • Inform and provide recommendations to Council regarding funding for community organizations (ex. Primary Care Action Plan, Pilot Projects etc.).
    • Develop and monitor budgets, expenditures and financial guidelines related to various funding sources including municipal, provincial, federal and third-party revenue.
    • Liaise directly with provincial staff and other funders to discuss funding amounts, eligibility, contract agreements and reporting requirements.
    • Monitor service contracts with community partners using appropriate outcome measures.
    • Pursue funding opportunities and support the delivery and reporting of grant-funded projects and programs (in accordance with established funding agreements).
  • Communication
    • Prepare reports, presentations, briefing notes, media and promotional materials etc.
    • Present information to City Council, Committees, community groups and other stakeholders.
    • Organize, chair, take minutes, and actively participate in internal and external meetings and Committees.
  • Research and Policy
    • Work directly with Mayor and members of City Council to develop City policy and initiatives (Ex. Food Security response and advocacy).
    • Conduct literature reviews and jurisdictional scans on identified community issues to determine gaps, barriers, and recommendations for preferred outcomes.
    • Provides input into the development of policies, procedures, and protocols pertaining to various corporate portfolios.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with community agencies, service providers, funders and government partners.
    • Facilitate collaborative problem-solving and planning among diverse stakeholders.
    • Represent the municipality on external committees, networks and working groups.
    • Design and facilitate community engagement activities including consultation, workshops, focus groups and surveys.
    • Gather and analyze community feedback to inform recommendations and project development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A University Degree in Public Policy, Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Health, Planning, Education, or other directly relevant discipline.
  • Over two (2) years experience in a Public Sector, Social Services, Community Health, Planning, Education, Geography, or Community Development required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of municipal and provincial programs and related legislation; with an understanding of the interrelationship between various levels of government, public administration, social planning, and program administration.
  • Experience developing program models and evaluating outcomes, including the development and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of current suite of MS Office productivity tools including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word are essential.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is an asset.
  • Criminal Reference check will be required upon time of hire.
  • A valid Class G drivers licence and access to a vehicle is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate education/experience aligned with one of the following areas:
    • Experience Supporting New Canadians, including settlement services, service navigation, program development, refugee/asylum seeker supports, partnership initiatives (ex. Local Immigration Partnerships), and/or experience working on inclusion-focused projects and initiatives.
