Role Summary

At the City of Thunder Bay, as a Coordinator Financial Reporting, you will play a key role in supporting corporate financial accountability, funding compliance, and strategic decision-making. Working closely with departments across the organization, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, maximize external funding opportunities, and provide analysis that supports informed business and financial decisions.

You will coordinate financial reporting, performance measurement, and grant funding applications, gaining broad exposure to a variety of projects within a municipal setting. Collaboration with multiple departments will be essential for preparing meaningful financial analyses that ensure strong financial stewardship.

How You’ll Support and Shape Financial Services

• Manage financial monitoring and reporting processes for funding applications, coordinating with various departments to complete accurate financial and statistical reports required by funding agencies and ensuring compliance with funding agreements.
• Prepare financial reports, analyses, benchmarking, forecasts, cash flows, and studies; interface with auditors and internal/external resources as needed.
• Manage a database of funding opportunities, applications, and status; review and coordinate applications for external funding collaboratively.
• Serve as primary contact and liaison with federal and provincial agencies for report submissions and insights into funding programs.
• Provide financial and accounting advice and guidance regarding accounting standards and use of SAP and other financial reporting software.

Qualifications

• Degree in business administration or commerce majoring in accounting with three years’ accounting or related experience, preferably in the municipal or broader public sector; or
• Diploma in business administration in accounting with five years’ accounting or related experience, preferably in the municipal or broader public sector
• Three years of previous budget preparation, financial reporting, and resource management experience
• Knowledge and experience applying and reporting for federal, provincial, and non-government funding opportunities
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, direct reports, coworkers, and the general public
• Strong project/time management, analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
