Position Details

• Hours of Work: Days, Evenings, & Weekends up to 12 hours (as scheduled)
• Salary: $25.63 to $29.36 per hour

Cook/Dietary Aide (Temporary Full-Time)

The John M. Parrott Centre is a fully accredited state-of-the-art, 168 bed long-term care home located in the Town of Greater Napanee. We offer free parking, a safe work environment, and advanced technology to support our staff. We are working towards becoming an RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization.

What You Will Do

• Prepare menu items following recipes, menus, therapeutic diets, production sheets and departmental procedures
• Operate commercial equipment in a safe manner
• Portion food requirements for each RHA, rotate stock and plan utilization of leftover foods
• Follow all Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and sanitation practices to ensure food safety
• Make independent decisions regarding menu changes and Dietary Aide staffing assignments in absence of Food Service Supervisor
• Portion and serve correct meals to residents and guests
• Set and clear tables and keep work areas, dining room and other department areas clean and sanitized
• Assist in dishwashing process and set up daily nourishment carts
• Adhere to all Public Health and Ministry of Health Dietary Compliance Standards
• Function effectively and contribute positively to the Dietary Services Team
• Other duties as assigned

What You Will Bring

We are looking for someone who shares our passion for helping people live their best lives and brings:

• Chef training or culinary management diploma from a Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities recognized program; Red Seal Designation preferred
• Secondary school graduation diploma (preferred) or equivalent
• Safe Food Handler Certificate (renewed every five years)
• Good written and verbal communication skills, expertise in quantity food production, and ability to instruct Dietary Aides as required
• Previous experience as a cook required
• Previous experience as a food server in a dining room setting is an asset
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
• Understanding of the special needs of those residing in long term care homes and Ministry of Health Compliance Standards
• Patience and tact in daily tasks involving residents, guests, and staff
• Good physical health, clean and neat appearance, excellent personal hygiene
• Satisfactory attendance record per Ontario Human Rights Code
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; stand and walk for entire shift
