Position Summary

Lifeguards ensure the safety of all pool users by monitoring activities, enforcing rules, and responding to emergencies. They provide first aid/CPR when needed, maintain a safe environment, and deliver excellent customer service.

Duties

  • Adhere to Facilities and Recreation’s policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain public education and public relations with pupils, patrons, caregivers, and parents
  • Fully understand all emergency procedures, such as clearing the pool and fire drills
  • Enforce rules and regulations
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers
  • Recognize and respond to situations where other staff members of the team require assistance
  • Initiate life-saving measures and alerts in emergency situations according to department policy and pending the arrival of ambulance

Qualifications

  • Must be 15 years of age or older, as required by legislation
  • Current National Lifeguard or Bronze Cross (National Lifeguard preferred)
  • Current Swim Instructor (an asset)
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
  • Current and clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector if 18 years of age or older
