Assistant Instructor Job Description
As an Assistant Instructor you will teach alongside a Swim Instructor Guard during our Learn to Swim programs. You will have the opportunity to assist in the skill development of children, as they learn new skills and become more confident in the water.
- Minimum Age: 15 years old
- Certifications: Standard First Aid with CPR C and Bronze Cross
- Must be willing to obtain Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor certifications and National Lifeguard certifications within 6 months of start date
- Pay rate: $18.14 per hour
Assistant Instructor Duties
- Assist with safety supervision, class management, and risk management during instructional classes
- Assist with instruction to individuals and groups in organized instructional classes with clear instructions and demonstrations for swim techniques
- Prepare activity plans, organize equipment, teach and assist with evaluation of swim classes in accordance with the standards established by the Lifesaving Society and City of Guelph
- Ensure compliance with Regulation 565 and City of Guelph policies including performing rescues and first aid when required
- Use critical thinking and react in emergencies involving first aid or building emergencies
- Assist with special pool programs and City aquatic events/water safety initiatives at pool or other locations
- Attend aquatic training sessions and participate in staff team building
- Complete necessary reports and documentation such as incident reports
- Provide professional and courteous customer service, including greeting customers and assisting with inquiries
- Help maintain the pool facility and perform equipment checks and sanitization duties as per Ministry of Health and City policies
- Ensure all aquatic qualifications remain current and on file
- Other duties as assigned
Swim Instructor Guard Job Description
As a Swim Instructor Guard you will be delivering the Lifesaving Society learn to swim programming. You will teach participants from as young as four months old to seniors learning to swim. This role also allows you to develop safety supervision skills guarding various rentals and drop-in swims.
- Qualifications: Standard First Aid with CPR C, Lifesaving Society Swim and Instructor, and Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard
- Must be willing to obtain Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor or National Lifeguard certifications within 6 months if not certified at start
- Pay rate: $20.86 per hour
Swim Instructor Guard Duties
- Responsible for safety supervision, class management, and risk management during instructional classes
- Provide instruction to individuals and groups, with clear swim technique demonstrations based on swimmer levels
- Prepare lesson plans, organize equipment, teach and evaluate swim classes per Lifesaving Society and City standards including advanced leadership and aquafit programs
- Complete documentation related to class instruction such as lesson plans, attendance, worksheets, and report cards
- Perform lifeguard duties during recreational swims, user groups, and other aquatics programs
- Ensure compliance with Regulation 565 and City policies including performing rescues and first aid when required
- Use critical thinking and react in emergencies, including first aid or building emergencies
- Assist with special pool programs and aquatic events/water safety initiatives held on-site or other locations
- Attend aquatic meetings and in-house training
- Participate in team building with all staff
- Complete all necessary pool operation reports such as lesson plans, report cards, test sheets, and incident reports
- Provide professional and courteous customer service including greeting customers and assisting with inquiries
