Aquatics Instructor

The Town of Penetanguishene is a picturesque bilingual community with a population of approximately 10,000, located on the southerly tip of beautiful Georgian Bay.

The Aquatic Instructor/Guard will assist the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Head Instructor/Guard to provide aquatics programs for the Town of Penetanguishene.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

• Instruct learn-to-swim programs and other swimming skill programs as may be required.
• Assist in the supervision and in the organization of aquatic activities.
• Instruct and educate all groups and individuals concerning the rules of the pool, and enforce these rules.
• Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility and equipment as required.
• Maintain adequate records and reporting including class progress, attendance, test sheets, students passing, and other report forms as required.
• Notify the Aquatics Supervisor or designate of any safety concerns or students unable to keep pace with the class for special assistance or re-evaluation.
• Work as a team with supervisors and fellow staff at all times.
• Be thoroughly familiar with emergency procedures, teach them to class members, and carry them out in emergencies.
• Attend and take active part in staff meetings and training.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times and promptly report any customer dissatisfaction concerns to the Aquatics Supervisor or designate.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Aquatics Supervisor or, in their absence, the Director of Recreation and Community Services.

Required Qualifications

• Life Saving Society Bronze Cross
• Current National Lifeguard Service preferred
• Life Saving Society Instructors or equivalent would be an asset
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
• Police reference check is required
• Availability for varying shifts, evenings and afternoons
• Automated External Defibrillator skills considered an asset
• Waterfront certification considered an asset
• Written and oral French language skills considered an asset
• Experience teaching swimming classes considered an asset
• High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is an asset
